Your metabolism has much to do with how much energy/food your body needs, just to survive. Basically, the higher your metabolism is, the more food your body requires just to stay alive – conversly the lower your metabolism is the less food it needs to survive….and the more that it can/may store as fat.

Think of your muscles as little fire places. When you decide to start a fire, do you drop down a giant log and light a match to get the fire going? Basically that alone will not work.
The best way to start a fire is to place a highly flammable material under some twigs. Now that the highly flammable material is started and burning, the flames will rise up and catch the twigs on fire.

Now if you place some medium size logs onto the fire. The flames may not burn quite as hot, but they will burn for a longer period of time before you will need to put on more wood.

The same goes for large logs that you place on the fire – although they may burn overnight with out the need to add more, the flames are not nearly as hot as the twigs are.

Your metabolism is much the same way! And you need to stick with the twigs and medium size logs if you want to loose weight. That is why there so many people suggesting that you should eat 5-6 healthy meals a day. Just adding enough twigs and medium size logs onto that fire to keep it burning Hot.

When you eat a large meal, you will usually feel satisfied for a longer period of time, but the problem is that it can actually slow down your metabolism by only eating 3 large meals a day – even worse if you only eat 2! Guess what happens when you eat more than 2 meals a day – you body attempts to store more for the next time you skip meals….the opposite effect what you are trying to achieve.

If we were all hooked up to an IV drip of complete nutrition, no one would be fat. The body would have no reason to store any nutrients because it would be in the habit of receiving more nutrients every few minutes.
